JERLEEN BRYANT, Joining Duffield Foundation

Jerleen Bryant, CEO of the Maui Humane Society, announced this week that she is leaving to become executive director of the Dave & Cheryl Duffield Foundation.

“An opportunity was presented to me that I just could not pass up, even though it was literally the hardest decision of my life,” she said in a message in the Humane Society Newsletter on Friday.

The private charitable foundation, based in Incline Village, Nev., gave the Humane Society a $1 million grant in March 2018 for the Wings of Aloha transfer program, hiring a new full-time cat program coordinator, upgrading cat housing and purchasing a transport vehicle.

Bryant said the Humane Society has established a CEO search committee to find her replacement.

“I will remain here for the next couple of months tying up any loose ends and assisting with the transition to new leadership,” she said in her message.

Bryant became CEO of the Humane Society in June 2014 when Sandra Shelby of Illinois withdrew her acceptance of the position. She was elevated from director of development and community outreach and had been a candidate for the job.

The Oregon native joined the Humane Society in September 2012. She has worked in animal rescue since 2004 on the Mainland and has 20 years of management experience in both animal welfare and private industry, a news release announcing her CEO appointment of the Humane Society said.

“We have an exceptional team of compassionate and capable people at MHS, and it’s been an amazing and fulfilling experience to work alongside them for the betterment of Maui’s animals,” she said. “It’s a feeling I will certainly take with me throughout my career.”
